Mindspeed Unveils Dual Core Processors for CPE

Mindspeed Technologies has introduced Comcerto 100, a new family of dual core packet processors designed for CPE. The product line architecture includes a pair of ARM 11 processors, a security engine, 64-KB of on-chip memory, a 128 KB L2 cache, as well as a 64-bit, 165 MHz multi-layer interconnect bus and embedded QoS and traffic management capabilities.

The packet processing ARM core runs ANSI C code. The application ARM processor runs operating systems and off the shelf applications. However, the ARM core can be configured to both provide dedicated use for applications or packet processing.

All I/O functions are handled automatically via hardware assist with on-chip buffers. The products in the new family will provide interfaces for dual Gigabit Ethernet, PCI Bus, USB 2.0 with PHY, TDM and Utopia L2.

The processors run OpenWrt Linux and the supplier's VoIP software suite.

The new products will be offered with a complete reference design including hardware and software.

The series is currently sampling in 4 configurations. Volume production is scheduled for Q3. Pricing will between $13 and $39 per unit in OEM quantities.

Teridian has introduced the 73M1866, a single chip FXO solution designed for routers, media gateways, ATAs, IP PBXs, and CPE gateways in SMB networks. The device provides the circuitry to connect PCM formatted voice channels to a PSTN via a twisted pair interface. The chip support return loss, EMI and common mode noise performance as well as host-side power.

The technology uses a common pulse transformer that forms a digital isolation barrier, transferring both power and data to the PSTN line side components. Separately, Teridian offers the 73M1966 chipset, which supports extended isolation requirements.

The FXO solution is shipped in 8mm x 8mm QFN packaging.

Volume production is scheduled for later this month. Development kits and support documentation are available for both devices.

PMC-Sierra has introduced an EPON/GPON gateway SoC for FTTH and a VDSL2 gateway SoC for FTTN. The MSP7140 and 7150 integrate a 600 MHz MIPS processor core, 3 Gigabit ports, 2 USB 2.0 full speed PHYs, a 66 MHz PCI bus, DDR2 memory controller, multi-channel terminal adapter, IPsec accelerator and hardware protection against small packet flooding. Each consumes less than 1.5W of power.

Both gateways are offered with a wide range of design and development platforms and support tools.

The products will be sampling in Q3.

Digium has introduced the TE220 and TE420, two new ditigital T1 and E1 PCIe interface cards with 2 and 4 ports respectively for use in Asterisk based networks. Both are compatible with the company's VPMOCT series of echo cancellation modules. The 2-port card will go for $700 and the 4-port card will be available for $1,200.

Tekelec has introduced SIP Signaling Router (SSR), which provides centralized session routing for softswitches and enables core signaling between TDM and SIP networks. The technology supports session management for multimedia SIP endpoints, centralized points for softswitches and a centralized application manager as well as number portablility aware session routing and protocol proxy.

Allot Communications has introduced Service Gateway, a Layer-7 DPI based broadband service control solution that operates within an AdvancedTCA chassis on hot swappable DPI blades. The platform provides four 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports that manage two 10 Gigabit Ethernet lines, supporting more than 20 Gbps of traffic.

Within the Service Gateway, the application and subscriber information for each traffic flow is identified by a single DPI process that can dispatch the flow to various other services and actions. For instance, the traffic may be earmarked for traffic prioritization and QoS optimization, filtering, enhanced security, or for collecting records for real-time charging.

Initial field tests of the technology are scheduled to be conducted within the next 2 months.
