Verizon Launches Remote AVVID Mgmt & Monitoring

1. Verizon Launches Remote AVVID Mgmt & Monitoring
Verizon has launched IPT Watch, a service that remotely manages and monitors IP networks driven by Cisco's AVVID. The company offers three levels of service including device management, fault monitoring and performance monitoring.

Device management manages Cisco CallManager and Unity. Fault monitoring manages the voice QoS priorities established by the customer and reports on situations that cause or could cause network congestion or degradation. Fault monitoring includes the services offered in device management. Performance monitoring provides customers with performance reports and information required for network forecasting and planning. Performance monitoring includes device management and fault monitoring services. The services are based on a flat monthly fee.

Ann Arbor, Michigan-based Concordia University is currently using Verizon's IPT Watch service.

3. Nokia Softswitch Enabling VoIP over 3GPP
Nokia and Vodafone Omnitel have completed a VoIP call in a 3GPP release 4 compliant network that transports circuit-switched voice and data calls through an IP backbone. The call was performed using Nokia's MSC Server (softswitch) and media gateway in a lab in Helsinki.


5. Vonage Launches Wholesale Telephony Services
Vonage has launched wholesale, packaged VoIP services targeted at RBOCs, cable operators, and ISPs. The White Label service package consists of telephony services, billing, and customer support, all under the wholesaler's brand. The Wholesale package includes only the telephony services, requiring the provider partner to handle billing and customer support. With this offering, the service is offered under the provider partner's brand.


7. AltiGen Introduces IP Phone
AltiGen Communications has introduced Alt-IP 600, a desktop IP phone targeted at SMEs. The Alt-IP 600 features:

  • self-installing software
  • one-touch buttons for access to voicemail, conference, hold, transfer, intercom, volume control, redial, call release and speed dial
  • Direct Station Selection/Busy Lamp Field (DSS/BLF)
  • Intercom; multi-line appearance
  • full-duplex speakerphone
  • 10 additional DSS/BLF programmable buttons that can be used to simulate multi-line appearance for answering up to 9 incoming calls or can be used for speed dial
  • local and remote administration
  • GUI management
  • 10 programmable softkeys with LEDs that allow users to monitor multiple extensions with call pickup capabilities
  • remote teleworker support
  • 10/100 Ethernet connectivity
  • message waiting indicator light

The phone is supported by the company's AltiServ Office IP phone systems and is interoperable with any standard H.323 phone. The AltiServ platform can support up to 200 Alti-IP phones.

9. Data Access to Deploy More VocalTec Gear in India
Data Access, an international long distance service provider, will deploy more of VocalTec's packet tandem switching to expand its capacity in four metro areas and to establish PoPs in three additional Indian cities. VocalTec reported receiving the order last month for additional technology, which was valued at $1 million. Nirvan Group facilitated the deal.

11. Eastern Broadband to Deploy Nuera for VoCable
Eastern Broadband Telecom, the largest cable operator in Taiwan, will deploy Nuera's Orca RDT-8v access gateways to support a VoCable service. A single gateway can support up to 4,000 subscribers. Orca is interoperable with Class 5 switches from multiple vendors such as Nortel, Lucent, NEC, Alcatel, and Nokia.

13. UTStarcom to Use IP Unity's TDM to IP Solution
UTStarcom will integrate IP Unity's MediaXpress MXP1070 SoC in its iPAS VoWireless system deployed in China to serve as a TDM to IP solution. The technology includes an on-chip RTP/RTCP processor that can manage up to 960 channels (or 32 E-1 lines) of voice, video, or data simultaneously.
