Minacom Introduces 24-Hour VoIP Stress Testing Solution

Minacom has enhanced its PESQ Advanced Test Agent for PowerProbe technology to support up to 24-hours of speech quality stress testing of VoIP calls much like BERT is used on the PSTN. The new solution including the delivery of reports every 15 seconds on MOS, clipping, distortion, noise, packet transmission and speech power. Thresholds can be applied to minimum, maximum and averaged results to highlight call quality degradation and provide alarms to existing fault management systems. MOS can be graphed against other metrics such as packet loss and SNR to correlate VoIP quality problems with their underlying service issues.

The stress testing solution is designed to help operators detect long-term and transient speech-quality degradation and to troubleshoot call quality problems due to excessive network traffic or as a result of dropped packets due to jitter buffers reaching capacity. The technology also facilitates VoIP installation, provisioning and validation of peering networks.

PATAP is optionally available in a version to support wideband audio as well as in a version to support loopback, enabling CPE to be tested without far-end probes.

FiberNet Telecom Group has launched gateway and partitioning services. The gateway service provides TDM to VoIP conversion and inter-working between SS7 and C7 signaling. The partition service is a managed and integrated solution to route VoIP traffic and aggregate it to a central system. These new services are targeted at carriers that buy or sell voice termination but lack either gateway or switch capacity to do so using IP.

Both service offerings enable customers to access the company's Phonomenum Minutes Marketplace, a clearinghouse for VoIP traffic which provides carriers and service providers the ability to directly buy and sell the origination and termination of domestic and international minutes-based voice services.

The partition service is based on NexTone Real-time Session Manager platform and session border controller. Modules are available for route analysis; events and statistics; LCR; adaptive routing; business analysis; and for establishing a web interface for access and management of endpoints.

4S newcom GmbH has introduced iBlue, a new SIP-based IP PBX that consists of a Mac mini, and an iPod Shuffle, which has been engineered to host the complete system from the OS to the IP PBX and still leave enough hard drive space for 4 hours of music. The IP PBX is sold with a license to support up to 250 users and 30 parallel calls.

iBlue supports number blocking, auto attendant, voicemail, and conferencing. All calling features can be configured by the system admin through a web-based interface.

The new IP PBX will be available on November 6th for $37,692. Half of the proceeds for the first 1000 systems sold will go to the VoIP Competence Center at the Technical University Dresdan.

Packet Island has introduced PacketSmart SaaS, a combination of software agents and appliances that provide network assessment for VoIP, VoIP troubleshooting, and ongoing VoIP SLA monitoring. The solution is for SMBs deploying Asterisk-based IP PBXs.

deltathree has received notification from NASDAQ that the company is not compliant with a marketplace rule that requires an issuer's audit committee to have at least three members that aren't getting paid by the company for other services. deltathree submitted a plan and timetable for becoming compliant and expects to be straight with NASDAQ by the end of the year.

In separate news, deltathree has teamed with telSpace to enhance its outsourced VoIP platform to support a fixed mobile convergence-type service. telSpace offers wholesale cellular, Internet and long distance services to MVNOs (mobile virtual network operators).

3Com has introduced 3108, a SIP-based IP phone that supports VoIP, wireless email and data applications over a 802.11b/g wireless network. It interoperates with the company's NBX and wireless network systems. It will interoperate with 3Com's VCX systems in Q1 of next year.

The phone features a clamshell flip design with a color display. It has a 4-way cursor that lets users manage calls, access their phonebook, view call logs and view emails. Personal settings, such as ring tones, speed dials, and connectivity settings can be configured on the phone or through a web-based management tool.

The 3108 is currently available for $415.

Global Crossing has added videoconferencing to its collaboration services
portfolio, via a partnership with Applied Global Technologies.

Approximately 1,200 Office Depot stores in the U.S. will carry American
Telecom Services' cordless phones, which are part of the company's Pay n
Talk prepaid long distance service.

Vertical Communications will buy Vodavi Technology through an agreement
that calls for Vertical to acquire all of the outstanding shares of the
company for $7.50 per share.

Telstra has announced that it will provide enterprise VoIP services and
call termination in Asia through the launch of its Global Voice over IP
service.
