Mitel, a provider of Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) solutions, releases the Mitel UC360 Collaboration Point, an innovative device designed explicitly for the personal office meeting space perfect for office managers. Developed in response to Mitel’s understanding of customer and market demand for simpler and more cost-effective collaboration tools, UC360TM Collaboration Point is a collaboration application that combines multi-party HD video and audio with in-room presentation display and document sharing for remote participants.
Mitel UC360 is a sleek and compact product with touch-screen simplicity that is simple to deploy and use. Imagine for awhile an IP endpoint that you can plug in and configure just as you would an IP phone. Mitel UC360 is standards-based, SIP-compliant, compatible with any IP PBX, and completely comfortable in a cloud context. As a result, it can change workplace collaboration from a special, pre-scheduled event into a spontaneous, natural part of a typical work day in the office.
Mitel UC360 is based on Mitel’s flexible and open Freedom architecture, which is intended to industry standards and to work with leading video collaboration, telepresence, audio conferencing and IP PBX solutions. Interoperability testing has begun with established in room and video vendors including Vidyo and Polycom.
Mitel UC360 is quite cheap in the context of UCC, currently characterized by expensive and complicated options. Priced at less than US$2,000, Mitel UC360 is marked to allow broad scale deployment in personal offices, where Mitel feels most collaboration rightfully takes place.
Interoperability with Vidyo is being showcased this week at Mitel’s Business Partner Conference. “UC360’s open, standards-based design enables seamless interoperability with Vidyo’s unique, software-based telepresence solution,” stated Ashish Gupta, Vidyo’s CMO and SVP Corporate Development. “The UC360 is an outstanding complement to Vidyo’s high-quality, highly scalable video communications platform and when combined, the solution simplifies instant visual collaboration throughout the whole enterprise.”
“Our customers/users have repeatedly told us they were very frustrated by the technical complexity, hefty cost and need for advanced scheduling required by existing collaboration solutions,” lamented Ron Wellard, executive vice president of Mitel Communications Solutions. “Mitel UC360 is our response to those customers. It is as easy to deploy and use as a phone, and delivers a high-quality, rich experience that aligns with the natural way colleagues work closely together, allowing organizations to reap the full productivity benefits and cost savings of workplace remote collaboration.”
Mitel UC360 will be available this August 2012 through video-certified Mitel channel partners.
