Toshiba releases VIPedge cloud-based telephone platform

VoIP users now have a choice of endpoints, including Toshiba’s IP5000-series desk telephones, IP4100 wireless telephones and Call Manager with integrated voice. Toshiba America Information Systems announced recently the launch of VIPedge, a cloud-based business telephone solution that enables companies to pay a monthly service fee—scalable to meet system size and usage needs.

Together with its IPedge and Strata CIX business telephone systems, VIPedge offers small and medium size businesses a choice of cloud, IP or converged business telephone systems.

Based upon the Toshiba IPedge on-premises business telephone system, VIPedge has features such as voicemail with unified messaging, mobility solutions including find-me follow-me call routing and integration with customer resource management programs, including Salesforce.com, Act!, Microsoft Outlook and many others. Toshiba also offers optional international calling plans if requested.

“With VIPedge, Toshiba manages the entire telephone system in the cloud, so all that users have to do is answer their telephones,” said Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems, telecommunication systems division. He added, “VIPedge empowers users to communicate more effectively, be more cost effective, and have greater access to their customers, partners and each other.”

Other vital features include the ability for businesses to place a call on hold and pick it up from another phone and press a button on a phone to put the VoIP system into night-mode. Unified Communications with Toshiba’s Call Manager solution enables for call control from a personal computer and click-to-dial, presence and instant messaging. Users also have a choice of endpoints, including Toshiba’s IP5000-series desk telephones, IP4100 wireless telephones, and Call Manager with integrated voice apps.

Software upgrades are always included in the monthly service fee, and PBX equipment obsolescence is kept to a minimum level as VIPedge systems are always kept up to date in the cloud. System administration is also included in the monthly service fee and reduces the need for on-site system system management, the company noted. In addition, businesses that begin with the VIPedge service can migrate to IPedge systems in the future as their needs increase.
