iBasis Offers Internet Telephony Hosting Service
iBasis reported that it has launched an Internet telephony hosting service that will enable other providers to lease VoIP equipment at iBasis' Internet central offices to access the company's Internet backbone and off-net PSTN termination agreements to offer voice, fax, pre-paid calling and other value-added VoIP services. In addition, iBasis will offer its operational support systems and proprietary Assured Quality Routing technology to aid in traffic management, reporting and customer billing.

iBasis' H.323 compliant Internet telephony network includes a NOC in Burlington, Massachusetts, Internet central offices in Frankfurt, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, New York, London, and POPs throughout Asia, Europe, Korea, the Middle East and South America. The provider can terminate voice and fax traffic on a global basis via its network or the PSTN. In addition, The company plans to deploy an additional 15 Internet central offices in select global markets throughout next year.

Nortel Completes Initial Deployment of BT's VoIP Network
Nortel Networks reported that the initial deployment of BT Tel's IP Telephony network in Spain is complete and operational. BT plans to begin migrating its customers (both business and residential) to the IP network and service over the next few weeks. The network will also enable BT to offer enhanced services including IP videoconferencing, VPNs, freephone and unified messaging services.

Earlier this year, the companies engaged plans to use Nortel's equipment to build a commercial Internet telephony network throughout Spain that will have more capacity than any other IP network in the world. The initial phase called for the installation of 12 service nodes in Spain, and then to expand the network to include 27 additional service nodes over the next three years.

CMR & NetIDD Team to Deploy FoIP Gateways
CMR Communications reported that it is teaming with NetIDD to deploy 20 IP Fax gateways throughout the Pacific rim, China and U.S. The POPs will enable the companies to offer FoIP services that allow users to send facsimiles, in real time, over the public Internet to any email account in the world. Gateways have already been deployed in Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia, with three 3 additional gateways scheduled for installation in China and the U.S. over the next few weeks. The remaining 14 gateways are expected to be deployed and fully operational by the end of next year.

CMR has established an affiliate network that can route traffic to over 35 countries. The provider can offer real time fax to fax, store and forward fax to fax, PC to fax, fax to email, fax broadcasting and fax archiving services.

oCen to Launch U.S. to Asia VoIP Network
oCen Communications, formerly Pacific Telekey Network, has announced the commercial launch of its US/Asia IP telephony network. The network includes hubs in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Los Angeles capable of handling up to 50 million telephony minutes of use per month. The hubs are connected via private bandwidth that is monitored on a 24×7 basis. The Los Angeles hub features a 4,096-port Cisco/Summa 4 programmable switch, with a host-controlled system provided by SynapSys that provides IVR capabilities. The provider recently began deploying Clarent's VoIP equipment in 10 markets throughout China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the U.S. In conjunction with the launch of the managed IP network, oCen plans to deploy additional Clarent equipment to double the number of VoIP ports it uses to route Asian services. In addition, the provider also announced intentions to use Clarent's equipment to extend its network into Canada, the Philippines, South Korea, and Vietnam.

In other news, oCen reported that it has raised over US$10 million in institutional equity and debt fundraising to support the deployment and operation of its IP communications network. The provider plans to use the funding to deploy a managed IP network throughout Asia to carry voice, fax, data, video and other IP-based communications traffic. The company expects to interconnect Hong Kong, Taiwan and the U.S. via the network this month.

InnoMedia Introduces New Version of Gateway
InnoMedia has announced the introduction of version 3010 of its InfoGate four port analog VoIP gateway. The H.323 compliant product is engineered to connect branch offices to existing corporate PBXs via an IP network. It can use an existing data network to route voice communications, and it offers both gateway and gatekeeper capabilities. It offers user defined address translation tables to enable the creation of preferred dialing plans for LCR. The gateway utilizes a RTOS and the vendor's DSP technology to provide voice compression, echo cancellation, and packet recovery algorithms. In addition, the product ships with a configurable IVR system, which can be customized to support any language. The product can be remotely managed, enabling a corporation to control and upgrade all units from one centralized location. It also offers optional CDR logging to provide information for accounting and management.

The vendor expects the product to be available this month. Pricing begins at US$2,495.

AudioCodes Releases OEM VoIP Module
AudioCodes has announced the introduction the MP-200, its digital media gateway module for OEM developers. The MGCP based product can support up to 4 E1 (120 ports) or T1 (96 ports) interfaces for connections to PSTN telephone trunks (ISDN PRI and CAS), an enterprise PBX or key system. In addition, the unit features two 10/100 Base-T Ethernet ports to enable calls to be routed in and between corporate offices via LANs or private IP data networks using user selectable coders including G.723.1, G.729A, G.726/G.727, G.711 PCM, NetCoder, G3 and T.38 fax. The coders can be configured to operate on each port independently.

Ditech to Acquire VoIP Firm, Telinnovation
Ditech Communications announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire privately held Telinnovation. According to the terms of the deal, Telinnovation will receive 600,000 shares of Ditech's common stock, worth approximately $75 million. The acquisition has been approved by Ditech's BOD, and the principals of Telinnovation. It is expected to close by February of next year. Ditech plans to leverage Telinnovation's relations with Cisco, Nortel, and Alcatel to participate in VoIP and VoATM development projects.

eFax to Provide Microsoft with FoIP Capabilities
eFax.com has announced a distribution partnership with Microsoft, in which eFax.com will provide Internet based unified messaging solutions for Microsoft Office Update's new e-Services web site section. The deal will provide Office Update users with a free inbound fax to email service when an account is opened. The companies are offering a trial of the service that will allow users to send up to 20 pages of facsimile documents throughout the U.S. and Canada at no charge. In return, eFax will receive permanent links on the Office, Word, Excel and Outlook home pages, and all side pages.
