1. InfoTech Releases IP LAN Market Study
InfoTech has released IP LAN Telephony: Probing the Shift in Market Demand, a study claiming that more than 40% of U.S. companies with more than 500 employees are in the process of converting to VoIP systems. The firm finds that demand for IP LAN systems is declining among high-end enterprises, while increasing among mid-sized businesses. Demand is decreasing among data network decision makers, but is increasing among telecom decision makers. Demand for iPBX was found to be greatest for systems with more than 1,000 phones. Demand is declining in locations with 40 to 1,000 phones.

Infotech also finds that IP LAN telephony shipments tripled in 2001, accounting for 12% of the new line shipments in the overall market. Annual revenues from IP LAN telephony systems is projected to grow by 32% per year from 2001 to 2006, with the market for related applications and services growing twice as fast. By 2006, the company has said combined revenues will exceed $17 billion, with the applications and services accounting for 80% of the total.


3. iCable to Use Innomedia for VoCable Trial
Innomedia has said that iCable will deploy its H.323-based VoB system for a VoIP over cable market trial in Hong Kong. The provider will use Innomedia’s appliation servers, and CPE, which connects to a cable modem. The trial will be conducted among 45,000 participants. A full scale commercial deployment is scheduled to be launched later this year.

iCable currently serves 560,000 video subs and 160,000 cable modem subs.



5. Ingate Introduces SIP Firewall
Ingate has introduced the Firewall 1400, a SME SIP-capable firewall equipped with up to 12 TP interfaces. The technology supports 100 concurrent RTP sessions.


7. Tekelec Enhances VoIP Diagnostic Tools
Tekelec has announced enhancements to its Message Generator Traffic Simulator including RTP/RTCP and SCTP functionality that allows carriers to conduct functional and load testing of nodes within a VoIP network. Support for RTP/RTCP is via 10/100 BaseT Ethernet.


9. Netopia’s IAD to Be Sold with Alcatel’s VoB
Netopia has said that Alcatel has certified and signed a MOU to resell its 4753 SHDSL IAD for use with Alcatel’s VoDSL system. Alcatel’s solution include its 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager, the 7300 Loop Voice Gateway, and ATM and Class 5 switches.
