1. Eastern Broadband to Use General Bandwidth for VoCable
Eastern Broadband Telecom, the largest cable operator in Taiwan, will deploy General Bandwidth’s G6 access and media gateway to support residential VoCable services.

Taihong Technology facilitated the deal and will be the systems integrator.

Last week, Nuera announced that the cable operator would be using its Orca RDT-8v access gateways as part of the same VoCable deployment.

3. AudioCodes to Use PT’s PICMG 2.16 Ethernet Switches
AudioCodes will integrate Performance Technologies’ PICMG 2.16 IPnexus CPC4401 embedded Ethernet switch in its media gateway product line to provide backplane switching functionality between its media gateway board and the resources in the PICMG 2.16 backplane.

5. Cisco Introduces Products to Catalyst Switching Family
Cisco Systems has introduced Catalyst 6503, a 3-slot modular switching chassis; a new 48-port 10/100 line card that supports Cisco’s inline power standards for VoIP; and 6503 and 6506 switch based security systems for firewall and VPN applications. The technology enables enterprise customers to standardize on one platform with end-to-end deployment options to introduce VoIP in the wiring closet, wireless LAN connectivity, and integrated network security throughout the enterprise.

The new 3-slot chassis joins a line of other Catalyst chassis products including ones with 6,9, and 13 slots.

The 48-port 10/100 Ethernet module will support the emerging IEEE 802.3af inline power standards via a user-installed daughter card to support standards-based VoIP wiring closet deployments in the future.

The 6503 and 6506 Firewall Security Systems provide 5 Gbps firewall performance in a chassis. The 6503 has 1 open module slot, while the 6506 has 4 open slots. The new IPsec VPN systems provides 1.9 Gbps VPN performance. The 6503 IPsec features 3 modular slots, while the 6506 features 6 slots.

The Catalyst 6503 chassis will become available this month at a starting price of $2,995. The 48-port modules are currently available, with pricing starting at $5,995. The optional inline power daughter card for modules will go for $1,495. The 6503 Firewall Security System and IPsec VPN system will share a common starting price at $59,995. The 6506 firewall and IPsec will share a common starting price of $64,995.

The Catalyst 6500 series is a key component of AVVID and supports both the Catalyst OS and Cisco’s IOS software.

7. Vertical Networks to Support Polycom’s IP Phone
Vertcial Networks has said that its latest InstantOffice integrated communications platform will support Polycom’s SoundPoint IP 500 phone. The company plans to enhance the system, which also supports analog and digital phones, to support any MGCP-based IP phone.

InstantOffice 5.0 will become available in late November. A system configured to support 192 users, will start at $18,150.
