Samsung has decided to give a twist to the design of iPod docks. Samsung’s DA-E550 dock has a tubular shape that looks like a piece of an elephant horn. It is one of the basic models in their catalog. The slightly curved tube with white finish is very pleasing to the eye. It is configured with two speakers; the left channel and right channel are located at both ends of the tube which enhances its stereo effect.
The aim of the engineers who concocted these products is that the speakers can shoot the sound to the user, but not directly to your ears, so that it reaches the listener after bouncing on the walls and furniture of a room. This increases the feeling of space as perceived by the listener. This Samsung product offers stereo sound, thanks to a class D amplifier with an output power of 10 watts in total, enough for a medium-sized room. It also has a bass boost , which is appreciated especially in the more modern musical styles.
The open design speakers use Phase Plug technology for greater clarity and depth of audio passages becomes even more subtle with low volumes. The device is accompanied by a small remote control – volume buttons, play and pause are located in the upper right part of the remote control, and they are almost imperceptible, but you may be able to feel them.
The digital connector for an iPhone or an iPod is removable, and is also hidden and out of sight when not in use.
The dock can also be used with devices like Apple OS IOS and other smartphones, especially for the Samsung Galaxy S2 , S3 Galaxy and Galaxy Note.
For Android systems, there is a mini USB port connector just behind the 30-pin connector used by Apple's iPod, the iPhone and the iPad. The Korean maker calls this as “dual docks.” The device’s battery is recharged while connected to the base.
It supports common compressed audio formats: MP3, WMA and AAC. Unlike its companion in the catalog – the DA-650, the Samsung DA-E550 lacks Bluetooth.
However, it is a fairly compact product that can be placed on any shelf or even on a table. In fact, it measures 462.7 mm wide by 151.8 mm high and 122.3 mm deep. Throughout April, the Samsung DA-E550 starts shipping worldwide.
