T-Mobile USA said to be target of botched Sol Trujillo buyout

Former telecommunications executive Sol Trujillo is trying to drum up interest in a buyout of Deutsche Telekom AG’s T-Mobile USA and has so far been ineffective in pitching a deal to private-equity firms including Blackstone Group LP and KKR & Co., according to insiders.

Wi-Fi is Facebook’s future in mobile advertising

Microsoft's Skype, other VoIP providers pose risks for mobile operators

An Analysys Mason report of roughly 1,000 smartphone users in Europe and the U.S. discovered that about 4 percent of respondents use mobile VoIP more than traditional voice services.

The study showed that IP communications provided by the likes of Skype and Vonage is no longer just an alternative means to fixed-line phone service. Of the smartphone users who are using VoIP applications, 20 percent used the IP-based technology more than traditional voice, according to Analysys Mason’s study.

New measures to control mobile towers in wildlife zones

Now, Indian telecom operators will have to take welfare of wildlife into account while building mobile phone towers. The ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) doesn’t want operators to build mobile phone towers in wildlife areas in India without carrying out a proper ecological impact assessment.

Samsung connected TV combines Verizon FiOS app

U.S. telecom giant Verizon Communications has become the first pay-TV operator in the United States to offer a native app for FiOS TV within the Samsung Media Hub, so subscribers can stream the IPTV service straight to compatible Samsung Smart TVs and Smart Blu-ray players, no set-top box required.

"By increasing accessibility through Smart TV applications, Verizon FiOS is giving consumers more flexibility for where they want to place their Samsung Smart TV within their home without the need for a set-top box," annouced Eric Anderson, vice president of content and product solutions at Samsung Electronics America.
